Waving

This canvas captures a day spent together weaving wool threads, chatting, and painting a lot.
The group of women and girls is cheerful, noisy, and lively.
I encouraged them to trust the process and not to be afraid of “ruining the painting,” but to recognize that the work is what it is because it was created together. And in the end, even the most hesitant brushstroke can become something beautiful.
They taught me to weave the threads, tying them to my toes to keep them in place; that you can paint on the floor with a baby strapped to your back if you’re so engrossed in painting that you don’t notice; and that you can jump for joy when you see the finished painting.
